Panel L1, Line 13 (2014)

Patrolman Nickolaus Schultz died from a gunshot wound suffered two days earlier after responding to reports of an evicted resident at the Tempe Lake Condominiums.

The subject, who had returned to his former unit, opened fire as officers forced their way into the condo, striking Patrolman Schultz once in the head. He was subsequently transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois, where he remained until being taken off life support two days later after his organs were donated.

The 33-year-old male suspect, who had ambushed responding officers while wearing body armor, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the residence.

Patrolman Schultz was survived by his sister, Heather; parents, Dale and Coleen; maternal grandparents, Richard and Patricia Shields; paternal grandmother, Charlotte Herring; and his girlfriend, Emilee McInnis.
