Patrolman Anthony Wagner died from wounds he suffered over two weeks earlier when he was shot as he and his partner tried to stop a suspect in a recent robbery.

The man, whose hands were in his overcoat pockets, was ordered to stop but fired through his coat and struck Patrolman Wagner in the abdomen. He was taken to St. Catherine Hospital where he died 18 days later.

Born Toney E. Pielarczyk, he had previously served with the Indiana Motor Vehicle Police, the predecessor agency to the Indiana State Police.
