   Patrolman Charles Glafcke was shot and killed by a vagrant on the city's south side while waiting for a patrol wagon to arrive.

   He was taken to St. Anthony Hospital where he died three and a half hours later.

   The 26-year-old suspect was captured after a three-hour chase in the winter snow.

   He was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. On June 24, 1931, he was executed by electrocution at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.

   Patrolman Glafcke was widowed and survived by his daughter, two sons and brother.
