Panel 52W, Line 21
Panel L2, Line 10

Sergeant Daniel Edenfield suffered a fatal heart attack following a foot chase of an intoxicated suspect who was beating a female.

While working a security detail at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, he chased the suspect and briefly struggled with him before being able to handcuff the man.

As he was waiting for a patrol car to transport the suspect, he collapsed. He was taken to Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne where he died the following day while undergoing surgery.

The 27-year-old man was charged with involuntary manslaughter, escape, resisting law enforcement and battery. He later pleaded guilty to resisting law enforcement and battery. He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison with two years suspended and released from two years probation in 2002.

Sergeant Edenfield, from Fort Wayne, was survived by his wife and two children.
