   Captain Charles Jones was killed by a passing vehicle while conducting a traffic stop.

   He and another officer had stopped a car for a traffic infraction when Captain Jones was struck and killed by a passing vehicle being operated by an intoxicated driver.

   The 35-year-old driver turned himself into the sheriff later that day. He was charged with reckless homicide, involuntary manslaughter and failure to stop after an accident. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail and fined $50 for failure to stop after an accident while the other charges were dismissed.

   Captain Jones was survived by his wife, four children and parents.
