   Town Marshal Edward Cook was killed when he stopped to assist a motorist to change a tire at a local gas station.

   As he leaned over, his service weapon fell out of its holster and discharged when it hit the pavement, striking him in the heart with a .32-caliber bullet.

   Town Marshal Cook was survived by his wife, two daughters, three sons, sister, two brothers and father.
