   Jail Officer Gregory Cushing was killed in a two-vehicle accident while on duty.

   He was a passenger in their patrol car when his partner struck the rear of a semitrailer that was making a left-hand turn in front of them.

   Jail Officer Cushing, from Howe, was single and survived by his parents and brother.

Historical Notes

• Jail Officer Cushing is the second-youngest known officer killed in the line of duty in Indiana.
• He also is the seventh-youngest known officer killed in the line of duty in the United States.
