Patrolman Marion Cunningham was shot and killed by an intoxicated suspect whom he encountered earlier in the evening. He took the man home and informed him he would be arrested if he was seen again.

   As he continued his patrol he encountered the subject sitting on the steps of Fire Company #2. As he approached, the man suddenly pulled a handgun and opened fire. Patrolman Cunningham was taken to Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he died ten days later.

   The 28-year-old suspect was convicted of murder by a jury and sentenced to life in prison. In 1953, he was granted parole by Governor George N. Craig.

   Patrolman Cunningham was survived by his wife.
