Panel 60W, Line 23
Panel L27, Line 11

Special Deputy Sheriff Kay Gregory was killed in a two-vehicle accident while delivering official documents to the Marion County Courthouse.

While traveling northbound on Delaware Street, she was struck by the driver of a vehicle who was eastbound on South Street after disregarding the red light at the intersection. She lost control of her unmarked sheriff's vehicle and struck a tree.

She was transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital where she died.

The 30-year-old driver, who was injured, was taken to Methodist Hospital where she was charged with driving on a suspended license.

Special Deputy Sheriff Gregory (née Wilson), from Indianapolis, had previously served with the Indianapolis Police Department for 23 years and was one of the agency's first female sergeants. As a special deputy, she was responsible for serving court orders, civil papers and tax warrants.

She was survived by her husband, four children, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband also served with the Marion County Sheriff's Department, had previously served as the marshal with the Gosport Town Marshal's Office and retired as a sergeant with the Indianapolis Police Department.
