Panel 37E, Line 8
Panel L27, Line 3

Patrolman Amos Markle died from injuries he suffered six years earlier while attempting to make an arrest during a labor unrest.

While working with other officers to stop a riot that had broken out at the W.C. Starr & Son factory, Patrolman Markle was struck in the head with a stone. After regaining consciousness, he fired twice at a group of men fleeing the scene.

An intoxicated combatant who participated in the riot was later apprehended.

The injuries disabled Patrolman Markle, causing him to become deaf. He later became the jailer but never fully recovered and he died at home from complications of his head injuries six years later.

Patrolman Markle was survived by his wife, son and sister.
