Panel L25, Line 6

Town Marshal Robert Brunner was struck and killed by a vehicle during a traffic stop on U.S. 24, a mile east of Wolcott.

Marshal Brunner had stopped a commercial vehicle traveling east for a minor traffic violation. After the driver had turned his truck around to head back into town and parked on the north side of the roadway as instructed by Marshal Brunner, another truck from the same company stopped and parked on the south side of the roadway.

As Marshal Brunner and the driver of the second truck were standing by the side of the other truck waiting for it to pull out, an approaching car from the east struck Marshal Brunner despite attempts by the truck driver to warn him. He was thrown across the highway and became lodged under the wheels of the parked truck, killing him instantly.

Town Marshal Brunner had also served as a deputy with the White County Sheriff's Department. He was survived by his wife, sister, brother and father.
