Warehouse Agent Robert Anderson was shot and killed while assigned to the Hammond Distillery in Hammond.

As he completed his shift, he encountered six armed suspects who had overpowered the agent relieving him as he passed through the entrance gates.

The suspects, who were about to steal liquor from the warehouse where 900 barrels were stored, shot and killed Agent Anderson before fleeing the scene in an automobile.

A 28-year-old suspect was later arrested and indicted for murder. At trial, he was subsequently found not guilty by a jury.

Warehouse Agent Anderson, from Richmond, was assigned to the Chicago District. He was survived by his wife, five sons, two daughters, mother and two brothers.
