Trooper Richard Brown was struck and killed while investigating an accident scene on Interstate 74 at the 54-mile marker near Lebanon.

A semitrailer traveling westbound entered the area of the previous accident between a milk truck and a car, which did not involve any injuries.

The squad car of Trooper Brown, which was parked in the median, was struck from behind causing one of its twin trailers to overturn onto his vehicle.

The collision caused an explosion and fire that resulted in the body of Trooper Brown being burned beyond recognition.

Two men, ages 25 and 41, from the initial accident were also killed and the 54-year-old driver of the semitrailer loaded with plastic toys was injured.

Trooper Brown, from Lebanon, was assigned to the Lafayette post. He was survived by his wife, son and three daughters.
