Incident Details
Cause of Death:Officer Joseph Krupp was shot and killed while he and another officer searched two suspicious men in the rail yards in Haughville.
As they approached the men matching the description of suspects wanted for burglary, Officer Krupp was struck twice as he searched one man who produced a revolver. The other officer was wounded and returned fire before the suspects fled the scene.
Both officers were taken to City Hospital where Officer Krupp died from his wounds and the other officer survived.
Later that day, both suspects were apprehended in Avon. The 20-year-old shooter confessed and was subsequently convicted of manslaughter in a change of venue to Boone County. He was sentenced to two to 21 years in prison and discharged in 1913.
Officer Krupp was survived by his wife and a small child.
