Panel 46W, Line 5
Panel L22, Line 7

Officer Paul Miller died a day after being shot by two men who had robbed a drug store.

As his partner was at the scene of the holdup at Schaller & Cole, 2502 North Station Street, Officer Miller went to investigate two men they had seen sitting on a porch of a home a couple blocks away.

When confronting them, he was shot in the chest by one suspect and once he fell to the ground, was shot multiple times by the other suspect. His partner heard the shots and upon his arrival exchanged gunfire with them, wounding one man, before they escaped.

Officer Miller was transported to City Hospital where he died.

The men were never apprehended and the case remains unsolved.

Officer Miller was survived by his wife, parents and two brothers.

The responsibilities of the Indianapolis Police Department (1854–2006) are now under the jurisdiction of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
