   Motorcycle Policeman Roscoe Shipp was killed in a two-vehicle accident while pursuing a speeding vehicle on North Delaware Street in the afternoon.

   His motorcycle struck the front wheel of an oncoming automobile when he had attempted to pull alongside the offending vehicle.

   The driver of the vehicle being pursued was never apprehended.

   After being transported to City Hospital, Policeman Shipp died from his injuries the next day following the amputation of his mangled left leg.

   Policeman Shipp was survived by his wife, two brothers and four sisters.



The responsibilities of the Indianapolis Police Department (1854–2006) are now under the jurisdiction of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
