   Motorcycle Policeman Alvie Emmelman died from injuries he suffered two days earlier after being involved in a single-vehicle accident while on duty.

   He had struck a pothole and was thrown from his motorcycle. He was taken to City Hospital with a fractured skull where he died two days later.

   Motorcycle Policeman Emmelman was survived by his wife, two daughters, three sons, mother and sister.

 


The responsibilities of the Indianapolis Police Department (1854–2006) are now under the jurisdiction of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
