Officer Edward Berry died two days after suffering injuries in a two-vehicle accident while attempting to stop a speeding motorist.

As he turned onto 16th from Harding Street in pursuit, his motorcycle struck another vehicle and he was thrown 95-feet down the street. Officer Berry was transported to Indianapolis General Hospital where he died from head injuries two days later.

The driver of the vehicle he was chasing was never apprehended.

The 60-year-old driver of the vehicle that collided with his motorcycle was charged with failing to yield to an emergency vehicle but the charge against him was later dismissed.

Officer Berry was survived by his wife, 14-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter.
