Cause of Death:Officer Nathan Lincks was killed in a two-vehicle accident when his vehicle was struck head-on near the LaRue D. Carter Memorial Hospital.
He was en route to a Police Athletic League event at the Thatcher Community Center to coach a youth ball team when he noticed a man in a military uniform walking in the rain.
A 25-year-old Army soldier had just arrived by bus and Officer Lincks offered him a ride home. As they were eastbound at a traffic light, a city transit bus traveling westbound swerved to avoid a vehicle that had pulled into its path as it exited the hospital parking lot.
The bus crossed several lanes of traffic, skidding on the wet pavement and collided head-on with Officer Lincks' vehicle. He was killed instantly and his passenger died one hour later at Wishard Memorial Hospital.
Officer Lincks was survived by his wife and two young sons.
