Cause of Death:Sergeant Edward Bollman drowned while attempting a water rescue in Lake Cherokee at Camp Kikthawenund southwest of Frankton.
He was off duty with a 74-year-old close friend when they were reported missing, at 9:00 pm, six hours after their departure on an ice fishing trip and failed to return. Their vehicle was located at the camp and a large hole was seen in the ice-covered lake. Emergency crews responded and recovered their bodies in 20 feet of water at 11:50 pm.
An investigation revealed the close friend had suffered a massive heart attack before falling into the water. Sergeant Bollman drowned after entering the water in an attempt to rescue him and render aid.
