Detective William Blazier was attacked while attempting to arrest several men who were trespassing and thrown from a moving passenger train in Farmland.

He had boarded a westbound passenger train at Ansonia, Ohio, and ordered five men aboard the train to disembark. Three of them obeyed his orders but the remaining two reboarded the train.

Upon discovering them hiding in the tender car after the only stop in Union City, Detective Blazier was attack and struck over the head. He was robbed of his pistol and then thrown from the train at the Plum Street crossing.

A resident found Detective Blazier unconscious about an hour later. He was taken to Home Hospital in Muncie where he died the following day.

Although three males were subsequently questioned and released, the case has never been solved.

Detective Blazier, from Anderson, was survived by his wife, three sons and mother.

The responsibilities of the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway Police Department (1889–1930) are now under the jurisdiction of the CSX Transportation Railroad Police Department.
