   Detective Edward Brady was struck and killed by a switch engine at the 21st Street crossing in Indianapolis.

   As he and another detective were boarding a switch engine, he lost his footing while climbing aboard causing him to fall. He became pinned between the engine and a freight car, crushing him to death.

   Detective Brady, from Indianapolis, had previously served with the Indianapolis Police Department for 18 months. He was survived by his wife, four children, mother, three sisters and brother.

The responsibilities of the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Police Department (1881–1964) are now under the jurisdiction of the Norfolk Southern Railway Police Department.

This officer, discovered in 2020, has not been submitted for consideration as an eligible line of duty death to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund by the Norfolk Southern Railway Police Department.
