Town Marshal John Whisman died from gunshot wounds he suffered 12 days earlier after attempting to arrest a man for being intoxicated.

   An altercation occurred during the arrest at the residence in which Marshal Whisman shot the subject in the arm while attempting to remove him from an automobile.

   A struggle for the man's revolver ensued when his wife shot Marshal Whisman through the jaw that removed four teeth and part of his tongue.

   He was taken to Clark County Memorial Hospital where he remained until he died 12 days later from his injuries.

   The 36-year-old wife was charged with second-degree murder and acquitted by a jury after claiming self defense to protect their two children.

   Her 41-year-old husband was charged with assault with intent to kill.

   Town Marshal Whisman was survived by his wife, two sons, daughter and brother who served as an officer with the Louisville Police Department in Kentucky.
