Turnkey Johnathan Armstrong died after falling while moving a prisoner in the Madison County Jail.

He was escorting a 19-year-old prisoner to another cell for an investigation of his mental condition. While holding the man's arm, the prisoner suddenly moved.

Turnkey Armstrong fell to the floor and struck his head on an iron post protruding three inches from the cement floor, rendering him unconscious.

He died of a skull fracture minutes later. The coroner subsequently ruled his death was accidental and no charges were filed.

Turnkey Armstrong, from Anderson, was survived by his wife and parents.
